more about the trip....

Hello, my sweet friends. Thanks so much for all your help in planning our trip. We've changed plans just a little. We're now planning to fly from Vegas to San Francisco and driving to Carmel.

I'm going to make a book to take with us with ideas of things to do and places to go, etc. I think that'll help us plan and make decisions while we are there. Oh, I'm getting so excited!

Our anniversary is May 3. It's hard to believe we've been married for 10 years.

I've been thinking a lot of what sorts of things I'd like to wear on our vacation. I definitely think a shopping trip is in order. I am thinking of keeping all of my clothes white, denim, black, and khaki...adding color with accessories only. It might sound dull but here is what I mean...

edited to add: I forgot to tell you were all the clothes, etc. are from!

I think the neutrals, denim and khaki is a good idea, vibrant accesories can add so much to an outfit, have a fabulous time and happy anniversary again!

Great packing plan. I use pretty much the same color schematic for packing purposes: khaki, white, black and I like to add in a bit of soft blue (instead of your reds).

Looks can be deceiving! It is SO beautiful along the coast, but prone to heavy fog layers...It is COLD along the coast from SF to Carmel! This area is one 'micro climate' after another...You could be freezing in fog and two miles down the road melting from heat! Make sure you bring something warm and snuggly. ASk AAA to make a trip-tik for you...it might not be a direct route down Hwy 1 since there are often road closures due to slides and construction (a stretch called 'Devil's Slide' is right out of SF and might be one of the closures) The Sunset Tour Guide is excellent! We give it to friends who visit...easy to follow...great little side trips, etc. You MUST MUST get to the Monterey Bay Aquariium, Hogsbreath Inn at Carmel, 17 Mile Drive, Carmel Mission, check out the gardens in Carmel Valley, further down the coast Madonna Inn, Heart Castle...
Oh my..So much to see and do!

We do many short road trips with the kids the staples are: sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, ziplock bags for treasures, styrofoam cooler with ice/water, water, water! (and to hold fresh strawberries!), Benadryl/allergy stuff,CAMERA (duh)
I could go on and on...If you have questions about where, when, how...just email me!!

What a fun vacation you've got planned! You will LOVE the drive down to Carmel! Amazing. And Stephanie is so right, it can be very cold in northern California.

Oh, your wardrobe is marvelous! Shopping for trips is one of my favorite things about travelling!

You are going to look adorable in any of those...love the Anthropologie trouser pant/kulottes! Do you use tripadvisor.com? The best way to find hotels and all else with customer ratings/feedback. Especially for SF...check it out. We stayed at Petit Auberge (cookie jar in the lobby, breakfast incl) and liked it, very romantic...many others to consider, so many neighborhoods, but Union Square is the central place to start...or that's what I think anyway, see what you think. So great for you two! xoC

Love your vacation wardrobe ideas. So classic! I definetely think you need to order ALL of them. Tell your hubby that I said it's okay!

I just love that white shirt-dress! I also am a black, white and khaki girl on vacation. It's so much easier to pack light that way - knowing you can mix and match everything in your suitcase for endless possibilities!

Love your choices. I actually ordered the sweater you have shown from the gap yesterday, but don't worry I live in Dallas so you won't see me coming in your outfit. LOL. Your trip sounds wonderful.

Waisze,
Check out the Beresford Arms Hotel, downtown SF. Very quaint and reasonable. Also large rooms for a small group. They also have a complimentary wine and cheese early evening and cookies in the afternoon...we stayed there on our first trip there and were so happy!

Oh the mention of Carmel - such a gorgeous place to visit!

This is my first visit to your lovely blog. I'm a Scots girl living "down south" in England, Shakespeare country.

I hope you enjoy planning your trip - it makes me want to return. Gorgeous coastal scenery and we used to go to a place called Highland's Inn but I think it closed, sadly. Carmel Mission was wonderful - and the ice cream parlour was fab too! Enjoy....

I just celebrated my 10th anniversary a couple of months ago. Congratulations!

I live in Monterey and there is so much to see and do here. There are TONS of good restaurants and things to see and do in the area. I love going shopping down Ocean Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea (don't miss the side streets! Delores has some of my favorites). 17 Mile Drive is a must! Of course the Carmel Mission is gorgeous. The drive down Big Sur is spectacular and the Nepenthe restaurant has good food and great views.

If you go in to Monterey, there's the amazing Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. The Custom House Plaza is a great area and I believe there is even an Arts & Crafts Fair going on there May 5-6.

There are so many more things I can recommend. Hope you have a lovely time!

i see that someone has mentioned cannery row already in monterey. if you make it there you must eat breakfast at first awakenings. its a great little resturant.... if its still there its been a while since i lived there. but i highly recommend it.
