At our hotel in Carmel, there was the most wonderful outdoor room. It was my favorite place to hang out. Even when it was a little chilly. In fact, especially so. Because they had the loveliest outdoor fireplace, flanked by facing benches.
I'm still thinking of that wonderful outdoor room. As I look at a little space in our own backyard, I can almost see a terrace there. I'm imagining a room bordered with potted trees and plants, maybe a wall. A bricked floor, definitely. A small table and chairs. And two chairs or benches flanking a fabulous outdoor fireplace.
Our budget won't allow for anything as fancy as seen here, all from Sunset magazine. But I've noticed that a lot of places sell outdoor fireplaces now...places like Walmart and Target even. Maybe my dream isn't so farfetched afterall.
And since the real benefits to this outdoor room won't be realized until late summer/early fall cool evenings, I'm thinking that I'll start saving now to be ready when the stores decide these outdoor fireplaces should go on Summer clearance.

It looks so exotic to have an outdoor fireplace, the one from your hotel is amazing!
Our friends have one of those outdoor fire "bowls" & they use it year round to make s'mores! How fun is that??!!
Oh, please, the last one, please!
I've been carrying around a very worn-out, dogged-eared magazine photo in my purse for four years that shows how some clever soul placed a little old wood-burning stove on her patio, then dry-stacked flat rock "walls" up around it on three sides... it's definitely a someday project. I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a garage sale bargain stove!
Oh yea, an outside fireplace how cool.... bottle of wine, big roaring flames, toasted marshmallows..... chimney fire, Fire Brigade, men in uniform, big shoulders...I think i'd better stop there!!xxx
I love all your photos. I have a very inexpensive chiminea, and I love it!
