the room, part two

Here's part two...houses!

I was totally inspired by Catherine's fabulous house paintings...see them here.

I wanted it to feel like walking into a storybook. I was going to keep adding houses all around but Rich had a better idea. He envisioned some of the hills with kids flying kites and tossing balls and having lots of fun. He said that way the children can imagine that the pictures are of them. I love it!

We had our physicals yesterday, complete with flu shots and a tb test. On Saturday we'll get our cpr and first aid training, and then head over to Ikea to get the bedding and accessories. We're shooting to be ready by the first of the year, but, at this rate, it might be a lot sooner!

Oh Amy!! I want to move in!! Did you paint the houses directly on the wall or print them onto paper and apply them? I love the look. I might very well duplicate it in our house! It is beautiful.

A storybook indeed! And they lived happily ever after.....from knowing you and the love that you've shared! What an amazing influence you are and will be in the life of a child.
I admire what you are doing! You're inspiring me to want to reach out and add more joy to hte lives of little ones...

Yes, I am interested in how the houses were created too. Are the patterns from fabric cutouts? Fabulous idea and designs, I want to move in!

Hi, Amy
I've been "lurking" at your blog for a few weeks now. I just wanted to say how much I love the painting you are doing in that room. My husband and I became Legal Guardians of our two great-nieces when they were four and six years old. I painted a mural in their room with a blue sky and big, puffy white clouds, grass, big giant sunflowers, bunnies, butterflies, lady bugs, and hummingbirds. Those girls loved that room until they were about ten and twelve, and they finally each got their own rooms. I know that the kids that come to your home will be so excited to "live" in that room for however long they are with you! :=)

Congratulations on becoming Foster parents!! My husband and I became Foster parents for his nephew when he was 1 1/2. 3 years later we adopted him. We also tried for over 10 yrs to get pregnant-no go! When our son was 8 (me 38), I found out I was pregnant (total shock!!), and now have a beautiful 10 yr old daughter, and our son is almost 19 now.
Best wishes for you and your new family!!!

(And your room is AWESOME!! Look at all that love on the walls!!!)
Hugs!

Amy- It's just wonderful already. It makes me want to pack my blankie, favorite picture book, lollipops and slinky and come stay there for a few days. What a wonderful haven you are creating.

Oh Amy!! This room will be magical!! Your posts about the room bring tears to my eyes, it is just wonderful what you are doing!! A child will feel so comforted in your home, I just know it. It's so important what you are doing! On the news here, just the other day a foster parent beat his teenage foster son to death. My heart broke inot a million pieces. Not only was that child pulled from an unfit home for whatever reason, the foster home was horrible too. The world needs more people like you and your husband Amy! The need for good foster homes is so important!!

I usually carry little unfinished wooden cottages in my shop but am out right now, as soon as my husband gets back from his trip, I am going to send you some ok? You can make them wonderful and add them to your room! Just send me an address, ok?
Hugs my friend!

What a sweet room! I found your blog through "posie gets cozy" and wanted to say "Welcome to foster parenting". My family is a foster family and we were just licensed last spring and had a baby girl for 4.5 months. She was a doll and having her in our lives was a good experience for us all! I wrote a bit about it on my blog (www.simplejill.wordpress.com) but I'm not a big blogger (I'm a lazy writer) so feel free to email if you have any questions. Good luck to you!!!!
