I don't know if I have the words to explain what happened to us this weekend. We'd signed up for what we thought was a marriage retreat. Ahh, retreat. Relaxation? Isn't that what comes into your mind?
What we got instead was a fully recharged marriage. We feel so connected and so excited to stay this way. It was a very powerful weekend.
When it ended yesterday afternoon, we were physically exhausted. It seemed like we'd been away for a full week or longer instead of just a weekend.
Maybe after I've collected my thoughts better and reflected more, I'll be able to speak more articulately about it. But for now I just wanted to tell you that it was the best weekend of our lives. And I am so happily married I could burst.
This is where we went.

oooh, what fun with your hubby. I have always wanted to do that too. I remember my parents doing the very same retreat and they put the bumper sticker on our car. Boy were they happy!! Glad it was fun for you. I haven't joined club little house yet... but it looks like you did so much work packing and sending. You deserve a medal. I just love visiting your blog it is very inspiring.
I am so happy for you. I've wanted to go to a marriage retreat for years but can't get DH to go - and have a feeling that he wouldn't put 100% into it at this point if we did go - he's still one of those guys that everything has to be on his terms or nothing. Saddens me, but I still love him.
It sounds wonderful Amy, can't wait to hear more about it (when you catch your breath back) :)
Happy for you, Amy...
so so happy for you!
I am so thrilled for you and Rich--this is so wonderful!
My husband of 23 years and I have been on marriage retreats in the past and you are right, they are wonderful. Like putting fresh breath into a balloon that may have deflated a little. Congratulations, bet you're acting like newlyweds again.
Josh and I went to an "engaged encounter" weekend before we were married, and it was great! We did feel very connected and glad to have gone through it.
My friends have been presenting on marriage encounter weekends for years, and they love it, too. Glad you found it helpful.
Hooray for happy marriages! I was just thanking God for my hubby this morning - he's so wonderful...
So happy to have found your blog and your shop - I'll be visiting frequently!
Thanks for posting this! I have already emailed the link to myself to discuss with my dh. There's always room for more happiness and a marriage is like a garden ~ it needs tending to daily! Am looking forward to further reflections on this retreat!
