two little joys

Baby has a new word, and it's the most precious thing in the world. He says "home". His little cheeks get all fat with air and then his lips close fast, like he's eating the word. He says it when I'm buckling him into his seat after a long shopping trip. He says it when we pull into the garage. And he says it for his littlest piggy who went weee weee weeeee! all the way, you guessed it, home. It makes my eyes fill up with tears everytime he says it. Geez louise, you guys, I'm so in love with this little guy.

Another newfound joy is our daily walk. Baby kicks his feet and claps his hands and squeals with delight at the ducks, robins, and bluejays we meet along the way. Today, I went straight along the path instead of turning right to go across the wooden footbridge. On this road less travelled, we went deep into the woods, over brooks, through budding fields of green, over moss-carpeted roots. Miles, I think we walked! We finally popped out in a neighborhood that I didn't recognize and backtracked through the new path again. As I walked, my head cleared and I felt just so very happy.

Maybe the secret to this whole new life is to take my blessings as they come. To feel this intense happiness as it is right now. The happiness of today enjoyed completely.

I hope many little joys sprinkle your day today.

Oh Amy. Is there ANY chance that you might be able to adopt this sweet boy?

Amy,
I enjoy so much reading about Baby. What a lucky little boy he is to be in a "home" where he receives so much love. Even at his very young age, he recognizes that "home" is a place where love grows. It is a wonderful thing you and your husband are doing for this precious little life. My husband and I became temporary guardians of his two great nieces 13 years ago, and that temporary became permanent. I wish the same for your family.

I think you have hit the nail on the head when you say to enjoy each moment in the present, not asking for more. I wonder if maybe God's universe is always changing so we will always be reminded to cherish what we have NOW rather than watering down our precious moments by living in the past or the future?

Home is such a powerful word. You are blessed to be able to give him his first real sense of it.

Aaah...Amy. What a sweet, glorious day! You know, all any of us can do is to take each day as it comes. Enjoy the blessings, kiddo!

i saw this on another blog...it said..."YOU ARE HERE. CAN YOU FEEL IT?"...just to remind us to live in the moment and feel what today feels like. it's difficult but nice and much needed for many mommies...or foster mommies (seems the same to me). blessings to you! i'm sure God is looking down upon you with sheer delight and thankfulness that you are caring for one of His children so lovingly. very inspiring...probably THE MOST inspiring thing about you...have a blessed week!

This really resonates with me, Amy. I think that "feel(ing) intense happiness as it is right now" IS is THE KEY in the really intense part of our lives that is mothering of little people who grasp, grab and do so very little GIVING in the way we are used to recieving. My little guys are all tucked into bed but I'm going to hold tight to this tomorrow and looks for "little joys to sprinkle my day." :)
