my new life

I can't believe a whole week's worth of everyday thinking "I hope I get a chance to blog today" but not getting the chance to has gone by.

My whole life is completely different than it was just two weeks ago.

Little one is down for a *hopefully* long afternoon nap. He's getting used to sleeping in his own bed and doesn't sleep for more than two or three hours at a time at night. We're trying to get him on a schedule of one nap in the afternoon and in bed by 9:30 pm, sleeping through the night. That's our goal, anyway.

I'm hoping to get busy finishing up some Valentine-y things to share with you. I'm a bit panicky about it, thinking it's now or never.

I'm going to try to get back into the swing of blogging every weekday. It was so easy before.

Did you miss me, my friend?

Amy-
I am so glad to see your post. I've been worried about you, what with being dropped into motherhood like a parachuter being dropped right into the battle. Babies aren't ever easy (though they are always precious) and I find those in the one-year range to be especially challenging. But, if anyone is up to the task, you are! Just don't ever feel guilty about letting a day get past without blogging. These days with Baby are precious and can't be repeated, so make the most of them. (And take care of you, too!) Sending happy thoughts your way!

Susan

Yes we miss you, but we are also sooo happy for you!! You are doing such a wonderful and loving thing! The blog will always be here, but babies aren't. Enjoy your time with this little one and remember to breathe. Sleeping is hard for most kids, even ones who have slept in the same bed their whole little life! Hang in there!

We miss you, but this is motherhood. Enjoy. Taking care of this child is your #1 priority right now. Have fun.

I completely understand what you're going through! It's hard when you don't have a schedule really established yet. The sleep issue is always the hardest!
Maybe read "The Baby Whisperer" it's really good about how to get them on a schedule that works for everyone and how to break habits so that everyone can function and be happy. Also great for ques to understand them!
You are doing great. Don't worry about blogging. We'll still be here! Miss you, but glad that you're doing something so important/fulfilling!

I check in on a regular basis...Truly miss your posts, but absolutely understand how difficult getting to the computer can be!! Amy, motherhood and parenting is a challenge for any and every woman...Most of us are broken in gently, taking care of tiny little things, who do nothing but eat, sleep and poop...But...To jump in feet first and start cold turkey? My hat is off to you!! You are one of the bravest women I (blog)know!!

I just found your lovely blog through A Cottage Industry and I am so happy to meet you! Congratulations on your foster baby! I simply must recommend a book to you. "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" It will change your life and transform a little one by training them to sleep. All the best and I look forward to more of your blog. Tracey

Yes, I do indeed miss you but what you and Rich are doing in terms of caring for the little one has precedence over everything else. What a wonderful blessing it is to care for a wee child who needs you.

I think your next-to-last sentence sums up a thought common to all parents: "It was so easy before." BEFORE being the key word there! For me, it was so easy to clean my house, run errands, return phone calls, read...before. But now is better. Now it is so easy to love, to smile, to experience unsurpassed joy.

I hope your little one gets used to his new sleep schedule soon! Those can be trying days, I know.

Oh Amy, how glorious for you~nothing better then watching a baby sleep. What a beautiful blessing!

I found your blog somehow...& wanted to share a very informative site... we adopted a baby from China, and she had spent a year in an orphanage. Then, our family endured a horrible tradgedy right after she came home. She has had so much trouble sleeping, and I found this site:
www.a4everfamily.org I have found it to be invaluable. These little ones have often awakened to find themselves in scary or unsettling situations (or even in a different place than they were when they fell asleep), and as a result, are afraid to go to sleep. We have worked through most of these sleep troubles, with the help of this site, and now she sleeps so soundly. Hope you find it helpful! Fondly, Erin

Me again...I wanted to add, that the above site deals with attachment issues (including sleep), and offers many helps for bonding with babies...games, feeding methods, etc. I am a mother of five, & I think it should be required reading for all parents! ;) Fondly,Erin

My son's foster mother was a blessing that I am grateful for every day. As I said at her funeral, she changed the world, one baby at a time. I admire you so very much- we have all witnessed your complete commitment to this cause. I know your little ones' forever families will be in awe of this gift you are giving to their precious children- and your babies will bring a depth of joy and sorrow into your heart that will bring you to your knees. Check in when you can, and enjoy the most important work of all.

I agree with Susan, don't worry about the blogging, baby is number 1 :) Enjoy time with the little one.
