extra helping

This morning, Baby helped put orders together. First I put him in the hip-sling-thing and he had lots of fun trying to grab whatever I put in the boxes, especially tissue paper. It took ten times as long as it would've otherwise but I just couldn't put it off until I had free time. Because, well, I don't have free time. Not a complaint, please understand. I'm not even complaining that Rich took two nice long naps this weekend and still had the nerve to go on and on about how tired he is. Nope, I'm not even complaining about that.

I had to wind a bunch of tinsels on spools for orders going out so I took the wheelbarrel o' spools down from its perch on the book cabinet. Oh, my goodness, but if you could've just heard the squeal of joy from the Baby. He started kicking and laughing and bouncing. He could not wait to get into it. So, here's the picture. We're both on the floor...me cutting tinsel and winding it and making sure that Baby's pacifier stayed in his mouth (thus no spools instead!) and Baby tossing wooden spools over his back with such glee and force and noise. Then Baby had the idea to use the unstable wheelbarrel to lift himself up to his knees (to better reach the spools that looked so much better on the other side of the wheelbarrel). When he did so, the whole contraption turned over and spools poured out all over the place. Baby squealed so loudly and clapped his hands. And, well, I just had to take a picture. Just imagine another hundred or so spools outside of the picture all around, under tables and behind curtains, to be found years from now.

Baby's napping and I'm off to look at the site Erin suggested to help us better understand what he's going through... http://www.a4everfamily.org/

Cute photo! It's the truth that children play best with things that aren't actual "toys." Why? I wish I knew. Novelty, probably.
And the closest I ever came to actually harming another human being was when our daughter was about 6 months old and I had been up ALL night with her. The next morning after sleeping through EVERYTHING, my husband woke up, stretched, and mumbled, "I'm so exhausted." I swear, if there had been a sharp object nearby I'd have stabbed him!

If you need direction to any other foster care/attachment/ptsd/trauma related information, just let me know. I know this is a craft blog and not a foster care blog, so you don't really discuss the not-adorable parts, but if you need people who've lived through the court hearings and visitation and the ever-changing parade of social workers, doctors, and therapists, well, I'm here and a lot of other people who are doing it are out here blogging, too.

Amy, I love to hear your tales as well. It must be a huge adjustment to the three of you, but Baby sounds like he's enjoying this transition just as much as you and Rich. Keep posting when you get a chance. I love to hear what is happening!

Amy, I have followed along with you as you prepared to foster this little one, and I just want to encourage and support you. What you are doing is more important than just about anything else. Our daughter came to us through foster care at 17 months. She's now 14 years old and the joy of our lives. God bless you!

So much fun! Having a little ones "help" can make things take twice as long, but they can also be twice as fun. That site looks very helpful!

What a fun story. It's hard to get work done when you have a little helper. I love that website. As a mom who adopted a 3.5 year old with RAD it is very important info.
