perhaps an intervention is in order

When my parents were visiting not long ago I went to the store to get decaf coffee pods for them. The shelves where they normally could be found were empty. I looked at other stores and still I couldn't find them. And unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately, continue...) this particular coffeemaker can't use other brands of coffee pods.

Oh no, I thought, they must be discontinuing this coffeemaker and its pods. I need a new coffeemaker.

Rational, yes?

I bought this coffeemaker after sampling the coffee at Williams-Sonoma. There were tons of different pods (called K-cups) and they seemed readily available. Target had them. Williams-Sonoma had them. In my mind, I think I must have imagined dozens of other places that would have them. My problem seemed to be solved.

Or was it?

Last week I went to Williams-Sonoma to buy more K-cups. You can just guess what happened. It starts with a dis and ends with a continued. They no longer carry them. And neither, unfortunately, does Target (who only ever carried two varieties of which I was tiring).

My name is Amy and I have a problem.

I don't normally hoard things. Really I don't. But I went a little crazy at the Keurig site. I don't have to worry about buying more K-cups for approximately 300 1-cup-aday days.

p.s. The original coffee pods for coffeemaker number one indeed have not been discontinued and can now be found just about everywhere, including my grocery store.

That is so funny! You are going to need a coffee pantry just for your pods. Does this make you a pod-a-holic?

Oh no! I am sorry to hear that, but it is also incredibly funny!

Oh, Amy, I believe this will be the perfect appliance for one-day-soon-to-be-wetbar.

Isn't it fun when you find something you really, really like. I don't blame you for stocking up!!

oh dear.. I can relate, but in a slightly different way! We went through three (fairly pricey) coffee makers last year, one of them the Melitta, which my husband signed up for monthly delivery of the pods, then stopped liking them and didn't immediatly cancel the subscription!

Now we are using a Starbucks grinder and pot and beans and the coffee is not as good as I remember making it in my Mr. Coffee years ago, but it's good...

Why can't a decent cup of coffee once or twice a day be an easy thing..??

I think you're missing out on *real* coffee. All that plastic wastage makes me shudder.

What a brilliant story! Sounds like something I would do. Love the magnificent swap items, almost makes me want to go and get a doll-house myself.

Oh my gosh, don't know quite what to say. Not being a coffee drinker (sorry!) I don't think I quite understand...lol

Oh no Amy...I think I may soon have the same "problem"!! I'm lovin these pods big time! Just found your gorgeous site and blog and will be linking yours to mine.

Yipes, I'm with Worsted Witch I'm afraid. Plus, if you have spoon the perfect size, it'll work with any non-pod machine!

Ok, so I've lurked for a while, but have to comment on this. I understand your obsession, although mine is with a certain coffee pot that is no longer made. It was a freebie from Gevalia. a little 4 cupper that makes the most perfect coffee. I buy them off ebay, at garage sales and Goodwill. I now own 8 of them so that if one breaks, I'm safe.
