I made the shadowbox yesterday during nap time. It's a simple cigar box (you can get them for free or close to it at cigar stores) I removed the lid and removed/sanded the paper. Then I painted the inside with a subtle gold metallic wash and the outside with a pretty pale blue mixed with the gold wash. The heart button and spool feet were hot glued in place. I had to stagger the spools back to steady the piece. It turns out I like the way they look all lined up.
Hope you're off to a good weekend!

I love this idea, Amy - I've been thinking about framing mine and this seems like a wonderful way to do it.

So cute! A perfect finish to display the sweet stitching.
It's beautiful! I love the finished product! :)
Oh my gosh...this is charming!!
Such a wonderful way to showcase your 39th year!!
I just knew you would do something super cute with yours! I LOVE it!
Such a beautiful creation! Love it.
Oh Amy!
This is adorable! I so wanted to stitch along with everyone, but had to much on my plate already! So hope you do another one. I t was so much fun viewing everyones projects. I went as far as marking off a tea towel in little squares, but then things got real busy for me. Looking forward to your next stitch-along project. I am thinking I am going to make what I marked off into a sampler of different things, dates and flowers that reflect my life and interests. Like the red stretchy swimsuits that I wore as a little girl, and those plastic dime store sun glasses, the aqua colored transistor radio I had as a teenager, my wedding date, the birthdays of my children, and on and on...! Love the clever use of colorful thread spools! Perfect display for your sweet stitchery.
I'm normally a lurker Amy, but I just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed your fantastic embroidery project. I've only had a peek at a few of the participants in your group, but what I saw was so inspirational! It's a project that I want to do -- but not until I can check out all the other people who participated. Thanks for being such an inspiration!
OMG!
You are amazing...I'm in love!

You inspired me to get my embroidery hoop and yarn out over the Easter holidays and I have started up a "35 squares stitchalong" now. I finally added pics to my blog of my little bit of progress :)
