neek! neek!

Here's how the living room is looking. I'm really digging the lighter, brighter color.

I'd ordered a green shag rug from Overstock but when I just checked the status it seems I made a mistake and really ordered a black shag rug. Needless to say, it's going back immediately. I was so looking forward to that shaggy, grass-like rug. I'm going to see if the price goes back down and order it again, this time making sure I'm ordering green.

Tomorrow the house gets inspected so we can renew our foster care licenses. I have so much to do...every room will get peeked into! Today I really need to tend to the craft room...

But all I really want to do is sip coffee and daydream.

OH! p.s. The three angels spent the day with me yesterday. It was so much fun! You should see how much these little ones can eat! Want to hear something so cute? The little girl (I'll have to think of what anonymous name to call her) has a word for when she really likes something (reminds me of Teresa's Foofala story!)...it's Neek! and it's said more like a little squeal like what you imagine a cartoon mouse might say. Neek! Neek!

p.p.s. I know you're going to want to know about the stuff in the living room picture, right? The house pillows were made by my amazing friend Catherine of Red Shoes... http://www.redshoeshomegoods.com (I think I'm going to grab one of her new pillows too so I'm watching her site like a hawk...a hawk, I tell you!) And the houses on the wall are by my sweet friends at Berries in the Meadow. Look here or contact the cottage. The cuckoo clock is my favorite gift from Rich for Christmas. It's from Pottery Barn Kids but I think they are sold out. And the mural? Also from Rich for Christmas from . here I overheard Rich telling my mother "You should see what Amy did in the living room...she put stickers all over the wall." That made me feel less excited about it. What do you think? Does it look like stickers? Is it silly?

Best wishes & good luck,

absolutely precious! i've been waiting for the update pictures and assumed you weren't posting because you were hard at work...and you were! i think the "stickers" are wonderful, and as soon as i saw the picture i thought " she got the clock for christmas--YES!!!" did you get the fabric mouse house? we did after seeing it on this site and it's too cute. i got the fabric tea set too and we often put the mice in the cups...TOO FUN

we got "wallwords" for our daughter's nursery. i was nervous because they were basically a glorified sticker, but every time i'm feeding her and read "love you forever & forever, love you with all my heart" above her crib i get a little choked up! i love the "neek!' too. such happy times for your little family :)

I LOVE the wall. (Men just don't get it.) Don't change a thing!
I bet that little girl did a ton of "neeking" in your fabulous home! It probably looks like Heaven to her! I'm so excited for you!

Not stickers! (Anyone who is anyone knows that someone who makes stickers would have NEVER put that much red on a tree!!) As soon as I saw the photo I wanted to drop into that floral chair, enjoy the view and read the day away! You get serious gold stars!

I agree this is a colorful and fun place for those children. A safe haven for them that's whimsical and fun. It's like they are getting to live in a magical and warm place which is what they probably need more then anything! Men don't know how to word things sometimes where they don't sound like they are questioning your judgement when it comes to decorating most of them think of white walls and a couch with a tv sitting on a box or something..lol He probably likes it and he is the one who bought you the stickers afterall! Stacey (mom to 4 wild crazy children, and babysitting fool to several more!)

That looks like a very inviting room. How magical that all three get to have "their" very own house pillow to cuddle with on the couch. Hmm, the green shag rug will make a nice touch. But of course you could also get three colorful floor cushions instead. Great for lounging, reading, and snuggling about while working on games and puzzles. :-)

It is perfectly whimsical and charming Amy!! Love the cuckoo clock and those adorable houses from Berries in the Meadow. I don't think it is silly at all and your new little ones will love it. Three year old little girls are straight from heaven. And they do have all sorts of funny squeals to express themselves!!

Love the living room; it's so fun but still beautiful.
And "neek" - so sweet. These little three are very fortunate to have you and Rich.

Anonymous said...

golly, this is the coolest room ever! how happy!

Anonymous said...

i think it's adorable, too, but i would probably put some sort of a long sofa table behind the couch and move everything forward a bit, so it's not all pushed up against the wall. just a thought.

Saucy said...

If neek means sweet, adorable, inviting, cute and thoughtful... why, then "neek" of course!

I think Neek could be her code name too - so cute! And I ADORE the living room - too precious! I love the tree!

It is beautiful. Being a NYC nanny and a part time foster home worker (Good Shepherd) I think you are doing a fantastic thing for yourself and children in need. I have been on the in-home inspections before and your home looks better than all that I have ever seen...your home seems to be so conducive to learning and play. The only thing I would look out for is that huge mirror standing on the floor. Is it free standing? Wioth all those kids around, just be careful that they dont lean up agains it.
I cant wait to read all about your adventures.
Those children are blessed to have you and Rich...and the same goes for the two of you.

What a happy room!

Why not call them Neek Nik and Nak, or something like that? We'll know the kids you mean, and it's anonymous too.

Love the happy, positive tone of your blog, and your courage and delight in the world and being alive.

My husband said the same thing when I placed tree on the wall in breakfast area! I tried to make it look like a garden room, a wall with brick showing through.(He helped me do the rub=on tree, he thought I had came up with rub-ons! "That could really catch on") When he walked in and saw my Wall Words (in two separate places)he just said, "you must have had to stand on the top of the ladder to do that?" I think wall art is great, for all ages. It really gives me a lift and a smile! Keep up the good work! Your house is wonderful and I think you are too! Anita

I love your room. It's fresh and airy and says "loving home." It is so happy. That is what I want in my den and my husband says HAPPY???? I just want to create it with pinks and blues with a little yellow. Maybe I can...

About Rich's comment: He was obviously proud of it or he wouldn't have been bragging about it to your mom. His choice of words? Ann and I have an expression we use when guys do something like this. We just look at each other and say: "Dudes."

They can't help it, it's just how they are. :)

you tell delightful stories! Have fun with the kids. The wall and couch with pillows looks very whimsical. I like it! Maybe you need more whimsy in the room but maybe you're not done yet or maybe I can's see more whimsy from this photo view. The green shaggy rug would be perfect!
