sweet sleep

My doctor wants me to do a sleep study to make sure that I'm getting a good night's rest.

A few things happen while I sleep. The first thing is that I make clicking noises constantly throughout the night. The other thing is that I wake up in the middle of the night very confused about the ceiling fan or the pictures on the wall. Or I think that I see something in the bathroom or in the corner or hovering above me when there is, of course, nothing there.

One night I thought there were pretty garlands strung all over the room with apples hanging from them. I woke Rich up telling him how much I loved it and asking him when he did it. Remarkably, even though it was the middle of the night, Rich was tickled by this and played along. He said "Oh you like it? I'm glad you like it."

It's a bit embarrassing to admit this problem to you. My doctor thinks that I'm not sleeping deeply enough and that I'm still a little awake while I'm dreaming. Something like that. It'll be nice to fix this and finally get full nights of sleep. And, I have to admit, I'm excited about this sleep-study adventure. Nervous but excited. And I ask you, how in this good world am I going to sleep in a strange place knowing there are strangers watching me when I have trouble sleeping in my own safe home with nothing but imaginary things watching me and imaginary decorations all around?

My husband does the clicking thing too. Personally, I used to sleep-walk, but it was a long time ago. If I started doing that now, I'd definitely look into a study. Now, I'm limited to murmuring and making this little 3-note sound about once a week (or so hub says).

I've heard really good things about sleep studies; just be sure the clinic has real beds, etc. A friend went to a clinic recently that was a complete rip-off: the "beds" were thin foam sheets. It was impossible to sleep, so it was impossible for them to study her. I think hers was an exception, but it won't hurt to ask.

Good luck!

My husband has had two studies. He has sleep apnea. Take a book or something to read to get sleepy. He said it wasn't too bad actually. He did go to sleep. I hope they find something to help you. Sleep is SO important to your well being.

I think creative people have trouble shutting down their brains at night sometimes. I sometimes talk in my head all night about everything! I also get up to go to the bathroom and can't find the door-that's interesting esp when I really need to get in the bathroom. I'm feeling around like Helen Keller. My sleep problems have sent my DH in the guest room many a night.

Oh poor you, hope you find a cure and get a good night's sleep, sometimes we take simple things forgranted. In the meantime, hope your dreams take you to happy wonderland.

I'm sure they will be able to help and well done you for seeking an answer. Sleep, as I'm sure you're aware is so important. Especially when you're running your own company.
I know somebody who has terrible nightmares and it can leave them feeling blue the next day. I know the doctor you saw will be able to explain what is going on and 'Sweet Sleep' will soon be yours forever. Zzzzzzzzzz.

I would wake up and wonder" where are my kids" are they here or did they spend the night out. My oldest went off to college this last week and I`m wondering if it will still happen. The garland does sound really cute!

Another interesting testament to the blog world, besides the exchange of creative crafting ideas, is the exchange of this type of information to put your mind at rest and realize that you are not alone when these funny things happen to you! It sounds as if several of your readers, including myself have sleep problems. Don't worry.

I used to get up in the middle of the night, convinced it was morning and I was late - so into the shower I went, then put makeup on and by that time the blowdryer would wake someone (the fan) up to tell me it was only 11 p.m. and guide me back to bed. That was years ago, before sleep studies. It continued into my thirties and my doctor told me it was anxiety about the many things I had scheduled to do the next day (sound familiar?) and now, although some might think this is unfortunate, I require a little white tablet with my supper or I cannot get a full 8 hours that I so desperately need. Believe me, I have tried to go without - and it is not pretty. I prefer to be well-rested and productive!

OMGOSH!! I soooo do this!!! My poor DH gets kinda cranky after the zillionth time of me waking him up asking him if he can see Jiminy Cricket hopping on our bed. :) I'm curious to find out what your sleep study finds. :)

Good luck. I wish my doc would do a sleep study--my problem is insomnia and waking up with panic attacks. Hope the study goes well and you're able to sleep in that situation--I can see how it would be hard!
